Sten Ebbesen, John Marenbon og Paul Thom: Aristotle’s Categories in the Byzantine, Arabic and Latin Traditions, 2013, 340 pages.

Only few books have had as much influence as Aristotle's small "Categories" from 300 BC. It is this books merit that we today use words like 'quality' and 'quantity'. From late antiquity to recent times, it was obvious that everyone who received a higher education, had read this scripture, or at least a portion of its contents. The work was read in several cultures: the Greek, Arabic and Latin

The twelve chapters of the new book, authored by 12 scientists from six different countries deal with examples of the use and interpretation of "Categories" in the three cultures. The book ranges from 7th century Constantinople to the 15th Copenhagen.
